Disc Golf is a variant of golf. Instead of hitting a ball off a tee and trying to get it down a hole in as few strokes as possible, disc golf involves throwing special frisbees or flying discs from the tee and hitting an above-ground target in as few throws as you can.
Sherwood Island State Park includes two disc golf courses. There is an 18-hole course that takes players through most of the West side of the park. On the East side of the park, near the Nature Center, you will find a beginners course with a few holes.
Reservations are not required to use the courses. You may also bring and use your own official equipment or just have fun with the same classic frisbee you toss around the yard at home. Be advised that portions of the 18-hole course may be unplayable when the park is crowded during warmer months.
