Saturday, July 21 saw the arrival of over 40 Greens Farms Academy students and their families to the Sherwood Island Nature Center. Part of a GFA fundraising effort led by Abby Hausberg, head of their lower school parents association, to purchase school supplies for underfunded Bridgeport public schools, the participants were hosted at SINC by co-director Soren Morrison and interns Kiara Miranda and Hana Haji, both rising seniors at their respective high schools. The entire group was led on a variety of nature-focused activities, including a tour of the Center and its collections and aquaria; a beach walk/ scavenger hunt; jingle-shell necklace crafting and some watercolor artmaking. From feedback offered by participants afterwards, the visit was a resounding success— and over $1200 was raised in donations toward their worthy cause.
