About The Friends

The Friends of Sherwood Island State Park was formed in 1995 to:

• preserve, maintain, improve and enhance Sherwood Island State Park for the benefit of the general public;
• educate the public about the resources, needs and value of the park and carry on any activities consistent with its classification as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation.

As a non-profit, volunteer organization, we need your help with every aspect of our operations and programming in support of the park. Sherwood Island State Park is an irreplaceable natural resource for visitors and a vital habitat for resident and migratory wildlife. Help us care for it. 

You can:

• Volunteer – Share your talents and skills to maintain and improve the park. We welcome anyone who wants to help restore habitats, assist with programs, or lend a hand with our advocacy or communications work.
• Donate – Your financial support helps purchase animal food, educational materials, and supplies for the Nature Center. It also helps us run our paid internship program each year. Want an opportunity to do something lasting? Learn about our 100 Trees Program.
• Become a Friend – Take a larger role in protecting one of Connecticut’s environmental treasures. Your annual membership is a statement of your commitment to preserving and enhancing the park for future generations.
